COULD AI BE THE ANSWER TO WILD FIRES?

Pano AI, the startup using AI tech to give early wildfire warnings, just added a cool $17M to its Series A despite tough fundraising conditions. The system, proving its worth with speedy alerts, may be a game changer in firefighting.

• Using AI-controlled HD cameras, Pano AI detects wildfires before the first 911 call. In a recent Oregon fire, they issued an alert a whole 14 minutes before the first 911 call.

• Their system doesn't come cheap, at around $50k per station. But the CEO argues the accuracy of the alerts means emergency responders can be more strategic in deploying resources, leading to bigger savings.

• Pano AI’s customers include utility companies, private landowners, and government fire agencies. They're monitoring over 6 million acres of land and plan to scale up big by the end of the year.

As wildfires become more frequent and severe from climate change, solutions like Pano AI's could be critical in managing these disasters.

• Using a software called RF Diffusion, scientists at Outpace Bio are designing proteins with amazing precision. Think of it as an AI tool drawing a picture, but instead of cats or landscapes, it's creating designs of proteins, the essential building blocks of life.

• The field of protein design is experiencing explosive growth powered by AI tools, and it's a game-changer for making drugs, industrial enzymes, biosensors, and even food products. Seattle is emerging as a leader in this area, with numerous companies originating from the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design (IPD).

• The potential market for protein design is immense. Lucas Nivon, CEO of Cyrus Biotechnology, predicts that in ten years, most biologics will be partly or completely designed by algorithmic methods.

The rapid advances in AI are fundamentally changing how we create and improve therapeutic proteins. This has significant implications for the healthcare sector, as it can streamline the drug development process, saving time, money, and potentially more lives.
